How is each karat priced?
24 karat gold is almost pure gold. The karat tells you how many parts out of 24 are gold: 21 karat has 21 parts gold out of 24 (87.5%), 18 karat has 18 parts (75%), and 22 karat has 22 parts (91.7%).
So the price of a gram of 21 karat gold = the price of a gram of 24 karat × 21 ÷ 24. One ounce is about 31.1 grams.
